IT Specialist

Using your knowledge of IT principles and excellent customer service skills, you will provide virtual and physical desktop support services to remote and local customers, resolving a full range of customer problems; perform basic installations or upgrades of common customer hardware or applications software; collect specific information from reference sources, software utilities, or customers to perform basic troubleshooting of networks, web pages, work stations, or personal computers under close direction of more senior IT staff; assess customers' needs; provide information or assistance to resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; diagnose and resolve routine problems for a wide variety of applications, operating systems, proposals and equipment; maintain problem tracking and resolution databases; and monitor reported problems for possible trends.Your common tasks will include:
ensuring printer services are available and desktop computer (e.g. Word, Excel, Project, Power Point) and network (e.g. FBMS, BPS, FPPS) applications are available and function correctly; resetting passwords and user accounts; configuring and deploying laptop and desktop computers; and, installing software, hardware, and peripheral equipment. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the one year specialized experience requirement and the 4-competencies - Please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-07) of the position to be filled. Examples:
Knowledge of network principles and concepts to work with network equipment and tools; using systems administration methods and procedures, customer support principles and IT security principles to troubleshoot and resolve customer support problems; and installing and configuring base systems. - OR -Education:
Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. - AND - Competencies:

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. All academic degrees and coursework must be from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. Undergraduate or Graduate Education:
Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management degree or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
