Supervisory Fish and Wildlife Biologist
Coordinates and facilitates activities pursuant to sections 4,6,7,8, and 10 of the Endangered Species Act. Plans and conducts status surveys for both listed and candidate species, in cooperation with other Federal and state agency personnel, private organization representatives, and contractors. Provides guidance to, and directs and evaluates the work of, journey level and other lower-graded biologists in matters pertinent to areas of special expertise. Reviews rules, regulations, legislation and statutes pertaining to rare, candidate, proposed, threatened, and endangered fish, wildlife, and plant resources. Prepares written correspondence, reports, and papers for publication, based on the literature, observations made, and investigations conducted. Delivers presentations on the Service's policies and positions to other agencies and the public. Prepares responses to Regional, Washington Office, and Congressional inquiries. Plans, investigates, conducts, and reviews on-site ecological investigations on a wide variety of the most complex and diverse Federal land and water resource development proposals to determine their effects on fish and wildlife resources. Performs the full range of supervisory duties including assigns and evaluates work performance of subordinates; gives advice, counsel, and/or instruction to employees; hears and resolves complaints from employees; develops performance standards, etc. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date will be considered. Applicable regulatory requirements, such as time-in-grade, must also be met by the closing date. BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
In order to meet the basic qualification requirement for the GS-0401 series, your application materials must demonstrate that you meet either A or B below:
A. Successful completion of all requirements for a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to fish and wildlife biology. B. An appropriate combination of education and experience. Education must include successful completion of course work equivalent to a major (at least 24 semester/36 quarter hours or school equivalent) in an accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to fish and wildlife biology; PLUS experience directly related to the position being filled and/or additional related education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must demonstrate that the applicant possesses the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position to be filled and equal 100% of the requirement when combined. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENT:
In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirement above, you must also meet the additional qualification requirement. Your application materials must demonstrate that you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) and have successfully performed ALL of the following duties:
Coordinating activities under the Endangered Species Act including Section(s) 4, 6, 7, 8 and/or 10; Conducting consultations/investigations to determine the impact of a proposed resource use or development action on the fish and wildlife resources of an area; Preparing biological opinions/scientific reports that analyze the results of investigations into the impact of development proposals on fish and wildlife habitat; AND Providing leadership which includes planning, organizing, and directing the work of other individuals focused on the conservation of natural resources. NOTE:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
