DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University's Department of Mathematics invites applicants for an academic-year tenure-track faculty position in Interdisciplinary Mathematics, broadly defined. We are seeking candidates with a background in any area of Mathematics who have expertise in computational or statistical methods (e.g. computational or statistical modeling, computational geometry, computational topology, etc.), or who have demonstrated interest or ability in cross-disciplinary collaboration. Humboldt State's mathematics program is lively, student-centered, and distinguished for its production of future scholars, its pioneering work in math education, and its expertise in the application of mathematics principles to environmental sciences. The Department is set to launch a place-based learning community together with Computer Science in Fall 2020.
RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointee's qualifications and experience. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Mathematics or related field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
Expertise in computational mathematics, data science, or related field;
Interest or experience in implementing innovative approaches in lower and upper division Mathematics courses to increase equity and student success;
Interest or experience in cross-disciplinary collaboration to develop curriculum that incorporates mathematical applications to the sciences;
Interest or experience in preparing students for careers in industry;
Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds;
Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity;
Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a variety of methodologies; and
Interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses (major, general education, etc.).

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record. Instructional assignments may include a broad range of courses in Mathematics, with an emphasis on lower division student success. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching; research, scholarship and creative activity; and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester. The reduced teaching load supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative activities required for retention, tenure and promotion. The faculty member hired for this position will be invited to take an active role in developing curriculum for the place-based learning community for first-year students.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Mathematics offers Bachelor of Arts degrees with concentrations in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. The Mathematics Department provides service courses for the entire campus. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
